As an important labor partner, NSEA has worked closely with the Culinary Union during the COVID-19 pandemic.
We appreciate that tens of thousands of students in our schools have parents in the hospitality industry and have had their lives upended by the pandemic. The safe reopening of school buildings is only one part of getting students through to the other side of this pandemic. The ability of their parents to return to their jobs would provide the economic stability necessary for students to be able to arrive at school truly ready to learn. Educators know this is too often not the case when students struggle at home with issues of food insecurity, housing instability, and parents facing the stresses of unemployment and not being able to provide for their family.
SB386 is the right thing to do for labor and it will also help thousands of Nevada students.
