Memo: NSEA Supports SB143 If Amended (2017)

NSEA will support SB 143 if amended to include additional resources for the successful implementation of the program.
Published: February 22, 2017

The Nevada State Education Association, representing 40,000 teachers and education support professionals across Nevada, believes that every Nevada student deserves a quality public education. NSEA understands the important function of libraries in public education, and we appreciate the intent of SB 143 to ensure that every student has access to a school library. However, given how stretched resources are across the public education system, NSEA believes that additional resources are needed to make this proposal a reality.

Representing school librarians across the state, NSEA fully appreciates how school libraries build strong students. School librarians support school achievement. We also appreciate that when spending for school libraries increases, so does improved student literacy. That is why NSEA is motivated to work with the sponsor of this legislation to identify additional resources to bring a school library with a licensed librarian to every school site in our state.
