Memo: NSEA Supports SB 200 (2017)

NSEA supports SB 200 and seeks an amendment to include additional resources for the expansion of computer science and computer literacy programs in our schools.
Published: February 28, 2017

With technological advancements and the emerging economy centered on tech, it is imperative that Nevada’s students have access to an education that reflects these new realities. Whatever path a student may take, computer skills and technical knowledge will likely be necessary to succeed.

Access to technology must begin at the earliest grade levels, so students become comfortable using technology in the classroom. We also support the social justice aspects outlined in this bill to engage more girls and students from communities of color in computer science.

Meanwhile, NSEA recognizes that the type of computer science education that our students will need to truly become college and career ready will require additional resources in the classroom. We are motivated to work with the sponsor of this bill to identify those resources necessary to make this education a reality.
