Memo: NSEA Seeks Amendment To Assembly Bill 65

NSEA seeks amendment to AB65
NSEA Amend AB65 (2023)
Published: February 21, 2023

NSEA seeks an amendment to AB65 in Sections 10 and 11 related to the year immediately following the school year in which a post-probationary teacher receives a second consecutive evaluation designating their performance as highly effective.

Currently, teachers who have two consecutive highly effective evaluations do not have an evaluation in the following year. Language in AB65 would allow that teacher or their administrator to conduct an observation to trigger an evaluation.

NSEA believes this evaluation should only occur if agreed to by the teacher and their administrator conducting the observation.
