NSEA Seeks Amendment to Senate Bill 75: Send The Senate A Letter

The Nevada State Education Association is concerned about the impact of summer unemployment on 9-11 month education support professionals (ESPs), so we are offering an amendment to the bill which would allow ESPs to receive unemployment benefits during the summer months. Relief for those who make our schools run is needed. Senate Bill 75 could be that relief if amended.

This Wednesday (February 10) at 8AM, the Senate Committee on Commerce and Labor will be hearing Senate Bill 75 on unemployment compensation.

The Nevada State Education Association is concerned about the impact of summer unemployment on 9-11 month education support professionals, so we are offering an amendment to the bill which would allow ESPs to receive unemployment benefits during the summer months.

We know that job opportunities during the COVID-19 pandemic have been sparse. Many ESPs faced significant hardship last summer, and job opportunities this summer are likely to be as limited as they were in 2020.

Please submit a letter to Senate Committee on Commerce and Labor, and ask them to amend the unemployment insurance eligibility so that education support professionals can receive benefits in these summer months.
