NSEA Endorses Steve Sisolak for Governor

(Las Vegas, NV) -- Saturday, September 22, 2018, the Nevada State Education Association (NSEA), representing educators in every Nevada county, announced its support for Commissioner Steve Sisolak for governor. The announcement came as Commissioner Sisolak addressed educators at NSEA’s “Red for Ed” forum, highlighting the grassroots movement of educators across the country.

“At a time when headlines are focused on local school fundraisers to offset a public education spending crisis, Steve Sisolak is the only candidate for governor committed to funding solutions that will strengthen Nevada’s public schools and help its students,” said Ruben Murillo, Jr., NSEA President.

During the 2017 Legislative Session, NSEA was the loudest voice in Carson City for increased school funding, calling attention to IP1 room tax money that had been diverted away from education. Sisolak has picked up that call, identifying those funds to reduce class sizes and improve educator pay.

“Nevada’s students, parents and businesses need a governor who is committed to finding solutions for education, and I am committed to rolling up my sleeves to work alongside stakeholders like NSEA,” said Commissioner Sisolak. “As governor, I will return promised education funding, so we can reduce class sizes, let teachers teach and finally give our teachers and education support professionals a much-needed raise.”

NSEA and its local affiliates are committed to seeing Steve Sisolak elected governor and will work in every county in the state to turn out the educator vote in November.
