There has been a lot of talk that legislators will not seek to eliminate the COLAs in the special session.  This, thanks in part to your hard work in contacting these folks as well as the commitment and leadership some of our friends in the legislature have demonstrated.  Today we’re asking you to contact some legislators to thank them for their leadership as well as to encourage them to hold the line during the session.

We are also asking you to contact some legislators to urge them to stay away from your COLAs and preserve education funding.  Feel free to use the sample messages below as you craft your e-mails.  Your action has made an impact and been very effective.  Let’s keep the ball rolling! Please note, your messages are being shared with some people who do not have your best interest in mind. These folks are also posting some of your messages on blogs so we ask that you double check spelling and grammar and use your personal e-mail instead of your work e-mail to send your message.

We are hard-working Nevadans who have been entrusted with educating the children of this state.  The cost of living adjustment appropriated by the 2007 Legislature belongs to us and you should not seek to rob us of our raises.  Gas prices are at an all-time high and it has become more and more difficult to put food on our families’ tables. This is unacceptable.  This is your chance to do right by the hard-working men and women of this state.  Do not take away the COLA that we need and deserve.

Sample Message:

We're encouraged to hear that you will not seek to cut our cost-of-living raises. It is only fair the raises that are due to us are preserved. We hope this special session will serve as a means to balancing the budget without cutting education funding. With the special session among us, please know that there are tens of thousands of Nevadans watching carefully as you work to balance the state's budget. I couldn't be more concerned about the possibility that our COLAs may be cut.  This cannot happen.  I know the governor has announced he will not seek to cut the COLAs but we cannot be so confident this will be the case.

You were part of the body that passed these raises during the 2007 Session and I urge you to preserve them.  Gas prices are at an all-time high and it has become more and more difficult to put food on our families’ tables.  Please do the right thing and vote to preserve the COLAs that are due the hard-working men and women of this state.
