NSEA 2013-2014 Organizing Grants Available
ATTENTION LOCAL PRESIDENTS In the economic and political times we face, it is more important than ever to strengthen our locals. The NSEA Membership Committee wants to remind locals that organizing grants for 2013-2014 are available and the deadline to submit grant applications is August 1, 2013. NSEA's focus has changed with these grants—and NSEA has made the financial commitment to support its locals' efforts in recruiting, retaining, representing, and mobilizing. The writing of the grant application should be part of an exercise for your local in creating your organizing plan. What is your assessment of your membership situation and what value do you offer to prospective new members? What is our analysis of what it takes to sustain membership over time? We are seeking projects that reflect a deep engagement by leadership at the local level. We are especially interested in projects that support the development of worksite leaders who will lead the recruitment and mobilization work. Please take note of the new deadline to submit your application. The deadline has been moved form August 15 to August 1. This change reflects the committees' determination to carefully study and analyze each application and give it the consideration it deserves before decisions are made about the grants. The committee will meet towards the end of August to make these decisions. NSEA "Good Idea" Grants for Licensed Personnel
NSEA is pleased to offer "Good Idea" grants of up to $1,000 to licensed personnel with innovative ideas to help improve education in the state of Nevada. The NSEA Good Idea Grants allow members to make their good ideas a reality, and may be utilized in many ways. Association members may use the funding to develop a special unit or project for use with students in the classroom, present a workshop or class for educators, or to create materials or lesson plans for individual or widespread use.
Education reform issues such as standards-based teaching, testing, and other forms of assessment and technology in the classroom are receiving a lot of attention right now and would all make ideal proposal topics. Keep in mind, however, that NSEA encourages members to submit any type of proposals that can help them meet their specific educational needs.
Please note: Grants will not be awarded for personal professional development, i.e. tuition.
Send your "Good Idea" to NSEA's Reno office: Good Idea Grants, NSEA, 1890 Donald Street, Reno, NV 89502 or you may fax applications to 775-828-6745. Good Idea Grants are avaliable in the spring. The NSEA IPD Committee reviews the proposals and makes final recommendations to the NSEA President.
Please help us publicize the “Good Idea” Grants by sharing the information with your colleagues. Click here to print an application. Should you or any interested members have questions or need further assistance, please contact Rose Brennan in NSEA’s Reno office – 1.800.232.6732, ext. 3021 or rose.brennan@nsea-nv.org
Note that all winners must provide documentation to demonstrate how the grant money was used.
