Gubernatorial Candidate Brian Sandoval Rehashes Gibbons’ Ed Policies
Nothing new or creative proposed by GOP hopeful

Republican gubernatorial candidate Brian Sandoval unveiled his education plan today pushing some of the same old and outdated policies such as merit pay, privatization, eliminating the salary schedules as currently structured, vouchers, school choice, and charter schools.

“Brian Sandoval’s plan is a continuation of Gibbons’ failed education policies,” said NSEA Executive Director Terry Hickman. “There is nothing new or creative in what he released today. It is simply a re-hash of what Gibbons has done in the past.”

Additionally, Sandoval is proposing to use the $300 million room tax NSEA worked to secure to reward high achieving and improving high schools.

“He is proposing to use the room tax revenue to reward only some when the intent of the room tax hike was to support student achievement for ALL students,” added Hickman.

Sandoval also suggests there would be no layoffs of education employees, yet it is clear these policies would lead to layoffs. His approach and proposals would further hurt Nevada’s kids.
